LGB 20130 Grizzly Flats Chloe Steam Loco, Collection Item

Wouldn´t it be fun to own your own real railroad? Disney animator Ward Kimball thought so, and so he built the Grizzly Flats, "America's first full-size, backyard railroad," in California. In the 1950´s, Ward and his wife Betty acquired two 0-4-2 Baldwin locomotives from a Hawaiian sugar plantation. One of those locos, the Pokaa, was rebuilt and renamed the Chloe, after the Kimballs´ youngest daughter. The LGB replica is just as eye-catching as the Kimball´s original. A low-profile drive mechanism preserves the real-life gap between the boiler and chassis. The Prototype As one of Walt Disney’s original animators, Ward Kimball created famous Disney characters like Jiminy Cricket in “Pinocchio.” Ward and his wife Betty also created their own narrow gauge railway, the Grizzly Flats, "America's first full-size, backyard railroad." In the 1950’s, the Kimballs acquired two 0-4-2 Baldwin locomotives from a Hawaiian sugar plantation. One of those locos, the Pokaa, was rebuilt and renamed the Chloe, after the Kimballs’ youngest daughter. Today, the Kimballs still operate Chloe on the Grizzly Flats, while other parts of the Kimball collection can be seen at the Orange Empire Railway Museum in Perris, California. The Model This detailed replica features: - weather-resistant construction - prototypical livery and lettering - operating drive rods - authentic steam piping and detailing - detailed cab interior with engineer and controls - low-profile gearbox with belt-drive Bühler motor - four powered wheels - six power pickups (4 wheel, 2 shoe) - working front lantern - reliable “flat” lighting socket? - Length: 275 mm (10.8 in.) - Weight: 1080 grams (2.4 lb.) 1 1 275
