LGB 24578 and 24588 SP® F7A Diesel Loco, Daylight. AB Set, Collection Item
Hard to find items and in excellent condition!
In 1937, the “Daylight” became the first streamline passenger train of the Southern Pacific. With a spectacular color scheme “as vivid as the California sun,” the train was an impressive sight on its run from Los Angeles northward. Just as beautiful were the views travelers enjoyed as the train wound its way along the Pacific coastline. The LGB model of a “Daylight” diesel loco exactly replicates the colorful livery of the prototype. With two powerful motors, directional lighting and marker lights, the model is an impressive sight on any LGB layout. Check out the matching F7B locomotive with sound (24588) and the Daylight streamline passenger cars (34570, 34580, 34590).
The Prototype
In the late 1940s, General Motors' Electro Motive Division (EMD) introduced this classic American diesel-electric locomotive. With its handsome "Bulldog" nose and 1,500 horsepower, the F7 was an instant hit with railroads and railfans alike.
Almost 2,400 F7s were built, and for decades, these powerful diesel-electric locos could be found in freight and passenger service all across America.
