LGB 23701 NOLB Steam Locomotive w/Lights and Smoke, Collection Item
The Prototype:
The U-series steam locos are among the best-known Austrian locomotives. Starting in 1889, seventy of these reliable 0-6-2
locos were built at the Krauss & Co. locomotive works. With a light axle load and an adequate top speed of 35 to 45 km/h (22 to 28
mph), the U-series were used almost universally on the many 2-1/2 foot gauge lines in Austria. The prototype of the LGB model
has had a long career, which began on the NÖLB (Niederösterreichische Landesbahnen) around the start of the last century.
