    Pennsylvania M1a Steam Locomotive
In 1939, railroads from across the United States gathered the finest locomotives from their motive power stables at the World's Fair in New York City. Among the iron horses presented by the Pennsylvania Railroad was #6759, one of the 301 4-8-2 Mountain types built for the railroad. Originally built as dual-purpose locomotives, only a handful ever headed passenger consists. The M1's really distinguished themselves hauling freight. Almost immediately after they had entered service in 1926, the Pennsy M1's proved themselves legendary with powerful hauling capabilities and an immediate positive impact on the railroad's financial bottom line. Engineers and executives alike referred to the M-class as "Pennsy's best".   The scale-sized Lionel M1a faithfully recreates the #6759 as she appeared in the 1930s with a classic slatted pilot reminiscent of the K4s passenger locomotives and an unobstructed smokebox, before the infamous "Pennsy facelifts" of the mid-forties dropped the generator across the boiler front and added a solid pilot. The RailSounds sound system features the distinctive passenger chime whistle received by most of the M-class. All-new tooling, enhanced smoke output and an improved RailSounds sound system highlight the high performance features of this TrainMaster Command Control equipped locomotive. The massive "coast-to-coast" tender includes two new FatboyE speakers for powerful, state-of-the-industry sound. The Lionel Pennsylvania M1a is a fitting tribute to one of the most successful locomotives ever built.
